The Political Science Department is proud to have a large diversity of students in our program. The student body covers the entire political spectrum, and they come from all areas of the Republic of Mexico. We feel that diversity of opinion is a strength, and that what unites us is our desire to improve society and the lives of the people.
There are three options to obtain your degree, and the chosen route depends on the needs and wishes of the student.
Dissertation (“Tesis”). The thesis is an in-depth research project that requires time, effort, and work with a supervisor. It is recommended for everyone who wish to go onto a PhD. The dissertation also allows you to pursue an Honorific Mention, if the student has an average above a 9.0, or a Special Mention, if the student has an average above an 8.5. There is no time-limit for a dissertation. +More
Tesina. The thesna is a shorter research project, answering a question posed by the student. It is recommended to use the Degree Seminars as an efficient way of working on a tesina, though anyone can do a tesina. This option allows for a Special Mention if the grade average is above a 9.0, but it does not allow for an Honorific Mention. Once the supervisor gives their approval for the question, the student has twelve weeks to write the tesina. +More
Case. The case answers a question from a pre-determined investigation. It is recommended for busy students, whose work does not give the student enough time for a more personal research project. The case does not allow for a Mention and it opens twice per year, at the start of fall and spring semesters. Once the student has the question, they have six weeks to answer it. +More
